African Pike

The African Pike – Hepsetus odoe

The African Pike is a rich brassy olive colour with dark brown blotches and cream underparts. It has a adipose orange fin with black sports, three brown brands radiate behind the eye. The jaws are pointed with sharp irregular teeth. It prefers quiet, deep water but will forage in marginal vegetation where the Tiger Fish is absent (as is the case in the Cunene). Breeding pairs guard floating foam nests in the shelter of marginal vegetation.

Found in the Cunene at Epupa Falls Lodge & Campsite though very rare and hard to find.
