Every now and then Koos, the owner of Epupa Falls Lodge, is talked into doing a safari. Whether it is a hiking safari or a driving safari, someone turns his pinky far enough to convince him this is the year! In 2011 a group of friends (multiple-return-friends) convinced him to take them into Kaokoland.
After many mails and phone calls, a tour was planned and they arrived by plane at Epupa.
Welcome to Namibia!
Over the next couple of days I will share the photos of one of the travelers with you as they drove through Kaokoland on tour with Koos. Enjoy!

While Namibians across thee country are rejoicing in the rain, the raging rivers are not to be taken lightly. Here the simple rule is – if you are too scared to walk through the river to test its depth – do not attempt to drive through it. Your car won’t make it either.
Most rivers in Namibia do not flow strongly for hours on end. But this time of the year, we do get a lot of flash floods – water that comes down suddenly with incredible speed and force. Do not become a victim. Rather turn around, find alternative accommodation and let the lodge know that you won’t make it.
Please be save.
The name alone wants me to book with Afro Zapping – what a cool name?!
Afro Zapping is an Italian operator owned by two ladies, situated in Windhoek. Although they specifically cater for the Italian market, their website is also available in English. So when planning your trip to Epupa, don’t forget about these girls – they are as passionate about Africa as we are.

So the far west of Namibia (Kaokoland) isn’t quite your dream, but desert elephants, a bit of culture and a waterfall is more than an appetizing menu to you… then this is for you.

Epupa Falls Lodge makes it to Richard Bang’s List of top hotels/lodges in 2014!
Richard Bangs is not just another travel blogger. He has traveled to more places than I can find on the map. And in 2014 he visited Namibia and our very own Epupa Falls Lodge.
Of all the places he could choose for his Top 11 destinations in the world, he chose Epupa as one. And we are bursting with pride.
Thank you Richard!

Situated to the east of Epupa, Oshakati is the capital of northern Namibia. Over the years this dusty town has developed into a major business center and has attracted all sorts of events like the Totem Expo.
